For the second year running, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has been named the Independent Bottler of the Year at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Scotland 2015 awards.

As well as triumphing in the Independent Bottlers Challenge section of the awards, the Society was also a category winner in the Islay and Lowland regions and collected a further seven Gold, five silver and nine Bronze Awards for its single cask bottlings.

The news caps one of the most successful and important years in the Society’s 32-year history, which has seen an increasingly diverse range of bottlings released, its membership base grow, and significant recent investment from private investors.

During the year, the Society has bottled a uniquely diverse array of interesting single casks, including Irish whiskey, Japanese whisky and grain whisky. Its most recent release of whiskies was its biggest selection of the year, with 43 bottlings that included a rare Bourbon bottling and its first-ever Cognac.

Also this year, The Society created a series of unique flavours of whisky ice cream, called Ice Dream Drams, in collaboration with S Luca to highlight its flavour-based approach to whisky.

Helen Stewart, UK Brand Manager for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, said: “Winning the Independent Bottler of the Year for the second year running is an early Christmas present for us and it’s a great reward for the skills of our Tasting Panel who choose which single casks we bottle for our members.”
