The gourmet burger wagon continues to roll into Glasgow with the arrival of Byron on West George Street.
The first questions to be asked is "Will the competition (Byron is one street away from the centre of Burger Boulevard) make a difference?"
Well, judging by how busy the place was when we arrived it certainly doesn't look like it. Staff were eager (sometimes a bit overly so) as were the customers.
Byron's calling card are their 'Proper burgers', but first you will have to stop yourself from filling up on their delicious Buffalo Wings, which are served with a creamy blue cheese sauce.
Arriving in bowls of 6 or 12, you could easily sit with these all night. Deliciously moist and not too spicy. Just right.

As for the main event; the Byron is their standard burger with dry cure bacon, mature chedder, shredded iceberg, tomato, red onion and Byron sauce. Go that little bit extra with Fredder cheese - a glorious mix of mature Chedder, Montery Jack Cheese and Grana Padano.
Their special burger shows off the skills of the chefs as well as helping to contribute to the One Feeds Two charity*; Bunzilla with its hamburger, soy glaze, miso roasted bacon, crispy onion ring, shredded white cabbage, wasabi mayo and pickled cucumber balances perfectly east and west.
We'd more than happily buy a jar of that wasabi mayo.

To finish, (and as long as you can stay away from the Reece's Peanut Butter Cup Milkshake) you might even have some for some dessert, and we decided to try - and were not disappointed by - their delightful Oreo Cheesecake.

Overall, a welcome addition to the city's burgeoning gourmet burger scene that adds a nice polish to an established formula. It's definitely worth a visit if you consider yourself a burger aficionado and even if you don't, the wings, milkshakes and desserts will ensure you have an enjoyable time either way.
