Single malt whisky Laphroaig celebrates its 200th anniversary this year and to mark this special occasion the annual Laphroaig Live will be hosted this week on the island of Islay – home of Laphroaig.
It has been announced that Outlander star, and avid fan of Laphroaig, Sam Heughan will be joining a panel of whisky experts and enthusiasts alike on the evening. With the tasting of four expressions, questions to the panel and the chance to join in the World’s largest Laphroaig toast, it promises to be a momentous occasion.
This year we will be tasting four very special expressions. The one off Laphroaig 15 YO – the official 200th Expression; Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015 - distilled using only the original small stills; Laphroaig 21 YO – created for the Friends of Laphroaig 21st Birthday; and a unique Laphroaig 32 YO - 100% sherry matured, a very rare, special expression.
Coming live from Laphroaig’s famous floor maltings, one of only a handful left in the whisky industry, John Campbell and the distillery's five previous distillery managers will be joined by two experts Bernhard Schafer - whisky journalist and Master of the Quaich, and Emma Andersson, Editor of Allt Om Whisky.
Also joining John will be Marcel van Gils, author of the official 200th book about Laphroaig as well as many of the Friends of Laphroaig from countries all around the World.
The main audience, who will as always be posting in their questions to the panel live on the night, is the worldwide collection of Laphroaig lovers, and will include Laphroaig US Whisky Ambassador Simon Brooking who will be joined by 75 Friends of Laphroaig via a live link to New York.
On Thursday 24 September at 8pm (GMT) the event will be broadcast live on the web. You can catch all of the action live at www.laphroaig.com/live/.
