The unique map, which is made from whisky cask staves, was used by series presenter David Hayman to help highlight the location of every operational distillery in Scotland with a small light.

With Hayman pointing out that ‘each twinkle is where the alchemy happens, and whisky is born’.

The series, which aired over three weeks in October, was a hit with viewers and whisky fans alike.

Now the map is set to be auctioned off by Move On Up Productions, the company behind the making of the documentary, with all proceeds from the sale being donated to Spirit Aid, the humanitarian relief organisation which was founded by series presenter Hayman in 2001 and is dedicated to alleviating the suffering of children and young people whose lives have been devastated by war, poverty, lack of opportunity or humanitarian crisis.

Producers say the map can be connected to a computer with a lighting desk software application, allowing the owner to light up distilleries by style (grain or malt), region, or even by ownership.

Series producer Don Coutts explained that it could be possible for bar or whisky shop owners to "wire it up to a till", so that if a whisky from a specific distillery was being bought, "the appropriate light would be illuminated".

A full technical spec will be provided for interested bidders, with the map itself measuring 2.4m x 1.8m, and being described by producers as "very heavy".

ScotchWhisky.com who are helping run the online auction, say the Scotch chart would be perfect for a "whisky bar, distillery visitor centre, whisky event or location that educates about Scotch in a generic fashion", while those "lucky enough to have a large whisky cave" might also consider applying.

Becky Paskin, editor of Scotchwhisky.com, said: “This distinctive distillery map was a central feature of Scotch! The Story of Whisky, and instantly recognisable to the many viewers across the UK who tuned in to discover more about the world’s favourite whisky. We’re proud to be working with Move On Up

"We’re proud to be working with Move On Up Productions in auctioning the map in support of Spirit Aid. No doubt it will be a welcome addition to an existing whisky business or bar seeking to further enhance its educational offer for visitors.”
