Equipped with burger joints aplenty, Mexican restaurants galore and even our very own homemade infamous concoction ‘Glasgow Megadeath’ sauce, it is a fair presumption to say that Glasgow loves all things chilli and spice.

Sunday 3rd May will see chilli enthusiasts gather to Ad Lib in Glasgow, Ingram Street, to indulge and participate in the Chilli Con Carnival. This fiery family-friendly festival offers the public the chance to participate in margarita masterclasses, dine on various chilli delicacies and to revel in all things ‘Mexicano’.

The carnival will also host a competition which will scout for Glasgow’s talented cooks and chilli buffs to be crowned the city’s very own Chilli Champion. Those who wish to enter should come along with their premade recipes to the venue at 5pm. An expert panel of judges including STV’s very own Colin Stone and renowned food blogger Glasgow Food Geek Pam Gilmour will decide who will win the title for 2015, £100 voucher to spend in the venue and the opportunity for the winning plate to be specially featured on both Ad Lib venues in Glasgow.

In the past few years, Glasgow has become spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing Mexican cuisine. Home to the likes of Squid & Whale, Bibi’s Cantina, Topolabamba and Pinto, all lauded contemporary venues known for the quality of their Mexican eats, is our city rapidly becoming chilli connoisseurs? We certainly think so… So why not spice up your bank holiday weekend and come along to Glasgow’s annual Chilli Con Carnival on Sunday 3rd May and bask in the chilli fixings made with Mexican heat and Glasgow heart.

For those interested in entering the competition, the rules are as follows.

There can only be one entrant per person. Time allocation will be given prior to the event. Entrants should use 250g of chilli in their dishes and must be freshly prepared and cooked within 24 hours of judging.
