Dressing the table for Christmas celebrations is as important as the menu and the guest list, here are some ways to set the right tone

Festive themed tableware can be a great investment and add that extra touch to the season’s festivities.

The big advantage to investing in good quality tableware and linens is it can be reused year after year and the initial outlay is covered over time.

There is a huge range of table linens, crockery, cutlery and table decorations to choose from so you can can create exactly the right mood for your Christmas parties.

Colour is an important consideration when choosing your tableware and there are several options. Traditional colours red, green and gold will never go out of fashion and can be reused year after year.

A more contemporary look, which still retains a timeless Christmas feel is silver and white. This combination provides a simple, clean look to a table but remains current. However there are so many different combinations available by mixing and matching colours you can create your own unique take on table decoration.

To start building your ideal table collection look at the tablecloth or table runner then work on your key items such as crockery and glassware.

Don’t forget napkins which can be either linen or paper and add a splash of colour to a plain table setting.

Decorations can include a table centrepiece of fresh foliage and candles, crackers, glitter or crystal snowflakes scattered across the setting. Place cards are becoming increasingly popular for more formal dinner parties and can be matched to the table decoration.
