The bar - inspired by George R. R. Martin’s bestselling books and the HBO TV series - will bring Game of Thrones to life and allow fans to fully immerse themselves in the world of Westeros.
Modelled on the cosy medieval taverns you’d find Arya Stark or Tyrian Lannister enjoying a tipple in, Blood & Wine will be located in the cellar below Daylight Robbery bar on Dublin Street.
According to Linden Wilkinson of Geek Social, the organisers behind the Game of Thrones inspired bar, the menu is made up of drinks found in the Song of Ice and Fire novels.
“Our menu consists entirely of drinks mentioned, drunk, thrown or poisoned in the novels or the show and boasts a wide selection of wines, spirits, ales and infusions,” says Wilkinson.
Open every Wednesday and Thursday evening throughout January, the themed bar offers guests the chance to partake in a little meat and mead in this unique and immersive experience which takes drinkers on a journey through the Seven Kingdoms.
Visitors can expect to sample the Wines of Westeros wine tasting flight, as well other delights such as Arbor Gold, The Imp's Delight, the Old Bears Hot Spiced Wine and Black Tar Rum.
Having previously created pop-up events in London and Norwich, Wilkinson was keen to go north of the wall in 2017:
“We are incredibly excited to bring Blood & Wine to Edinburgh - we can't think of any other city whose history is as - if not more - exciting than the world created by George R.R Martin. In fact, Edinburgh Castle acted as the inspiration for the infamous Red Wedding”.
“We think a city as beautiful and atmospheric as Edinburgh is the perfect place to host Blood & Wine, it's absolutely on par with Kings Landing,” remarks Wilkinson.
Geek Social are working closely with venue Daylight Robbery, Edinburgh-based sword retailers The Knight’s Vault and Royal Mile Whiskies to bring a true Game of Thrones experience to Auld Reekie.
Fans of other cult TV shows and books are in for a treat as Geek Social have more exciting pop-up experiences in the works.
“This is just the first in a line of exciting pop-ups we are planning to bring to Edinburgh,” says Wilkinson.
“We also have plans and ideas for the future surrounding things like Harry Potter, Stranger Things and the Walking Dead”.
