A decades-old Ayrshire-based fish wholesaler and restaurant has gone into administration.

MacCallums of Troon has been forced to appoint WRI Associated Limited after 30 years in business – but hopes remain that the business can be sold on as discussions over its future with potential buyers take place.

Scott Milne, a director at MacCallums of Troon Limited, said: "MacCallums of Troon Limited is an established and well-regarded business, and its restaurants in Troon and Bearsden are extremely popular with both visitors and local residents alike.

He continued: "The information available to the joint administrators suggests that this is fundamentally a profitable business.

"However cash flow difficulties have recently arisen from bad debts and the failure of certain customers to make payment within agreed terms.

"This has given rise to rising creditor pressure, necessitating the administration appointment being made with the intention of best protecting the business and preserving jobs via a going concern sale."

The wholesaler supplies several restaurants in Glasgow, and also owns Wee Hurrie, a restaurant in Troon, and Wee Fry in Bearsden, near Glasgow. The firm employs more than 40 staff.
