Lidl say that the introduction of the kids’ trolleys will build on the supermarket’s commitment to engaging children in the food shop and healthy eating.

Fun Size trolleys will be rolled out to more than 250 stores around the UK with large entrances/exits, as well as all new stores.

This follows a successful trial in Lidl’s Oakham and London, Tooting stores last year.

Stores will receive a kids’ trolley bay with 9 trolleys, each equipped with a lock and Fun Size flag. A Fun Size board will also be positioned at the end of the trolley bay.

The trolleys are named after Lidl’s Oaklands Fun Size range – miniature versions of ordinary fruit and vegetable varieties – which were designed as a creative way for parents to encourage their children to eat five a day.

The range launched in 2016, and there are now currently over 14 products, including ‘Avodillo’s (baby avocados), Broccoli Trees and Unicorn carrots.

Lidl UK’s commercial director, Ryan McDonnell, said that the brand were constantly looking for new ways to make shopping more fun and engaging for kids, he said: "We’re keen to help parents build their children’s understanding of what they eat, and we hope that our new Fun Size Trolleys will encourage kids to play a bigger part in the family shop.”
