BREWDOG, the Ellon-based beer brewer, has announced a major stateside expansion as they seek to capitalise on their growing popularity across the Atlantic.

The Aberdeenshire firm will build a brewery in Columbus, Ohio, a move designed to reduce BrewDog's carbon footprint. The company already plans to open new bars in several US locations, including the north-east, west coast, and Florida regions.

James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog, said: “Columbus has got a fantastic beer scene already and the people have always been so welcoming to us, so we felt it would be the perfect location for our stateside operation.

“This is one of the most exciting projects we have ever embarked upon and we can’t wait to start brewing hardcore beer on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The brewery will create around 100 jobs, and will be funded via BrewDog's US equity scheme. Its UK counterpart, Equity For Punks, is supported by 6,000 people.
