Scottish online supermarket Romaine Calm launches with local suppliers at its heart

A new online food delivery service has launched and it hopes to connect customers with local suppliers who are struggling at this time.

Edinburgh-based online supermarket Romaine Calm has been set up in order to support local and independent suppliers during the coronavirus crisis.

Set up by Jeremy Downton and James Henderson, Romaine Calm offers delivery of artisan products from Scottish and independent suppliers to the whole of Scotland.

Co-founder James Henderson said: "We set up Romaine Calm in reaction to the COVID-19 crisis and we are looking to support as many suppliers across Scotland.

"We are offering a straight to consumer link for independent business' that have lost 60 to 80 per cent of their business at this time.

"We love supporting our local bakery, local coffee roasters, local cheese monger etc. But in a time where supporting these amazing suppliers is difficult we thought we would make it easy with Romaine Calm.

"Suppliers are being added to the shop each day, and where we can't source suppliers for products locally, we are ensuring we are offering a high quality product."

Romaine Calm offers customers next day delivery in Edinburgh (if ordered before 4.30pm), with Glasgow a one to two day wait and the rest of Scotland delivery taking two to four days.

Items in the online shop include fruit and veg boxes, vegan produce, meat, dairy, sweet treat and drinks.

Suppliers include Aye Pickled, The Herbivore Kitchen, Company Bakery and Jarvis Pickle pies.

The company also have a few initiatives in place, such as a 'pay it forward' mixed fruit and veg box for key workers.
