Every weekday, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, customers at Ondine will be able to sample one special oyster which will be served on the half shell; either natural, breaded or tempura style for just £1 a shuck.

The Ondine Oyster Bar will feature native and rock varieties covering the length and breadth of Britain and the oyster type will be rotated on a weekly basis, giving customers the chance to experience different textures, flavours & characteristics.

Ondine Chef Proprietor Roy Brett said: “This is a place to roll up your sleeves, to eat, relax and enjoy. The introduction of happy hour will offer our customers an unrivaled experience where they can unwind and enjoy oysters with the finest champagne or local craft beer, specially selected by our expert bartenders. And everyone can be assured, they are welcome to get stuck in and make a mess!”

Perfect as a pre-dinner appetizer, an after-work snack or a special treat, Oyster Happy Hour is the ideal opportunity to sample delicious oysters at Ondine’s specially designed Oyster Bar. The affordable price means that it is a great way to experience oysters for the first time or to indulge a lifelong love.

Ondine’s location at the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town makes it the perfect place to celebrate the joy of oysters. Two centuries ago, surrounding streets were home to a number of oyster cellars, which were popular places to eat, drink and socialise. Robert Burns was a frequent visitor and to this day, basement excavations in the Old Town still uncover layers of oyster shells, eaten and then discarded.
