The first single malt distillery in Edinburgh for almost 100 years is opening the Holyrood Distillery Courtyard Bar to provide an outdoor food and drink experience this summer.

Opening on Wednesday 15 July, in partnership with Innis and Gunn and Pizza Geeks, the distillery’s courtyard just off St Leonard’s Lane will be transformed into a relaxed al fresco bar and street food space.

The bar will serve Innis and Gunn’s renowned draught beers, and the full range of Holyrood Distillery’s award-winning gins and gin liqueurs, a range of Scotch whiskies, and a carefully curated selection of weekend cocktails.

Alongside the bar, Pizza Geeks will be serving their handmade Neapolitan inspired pizzas, straight from the oven.

The Holyrood Distillery Courtyard Bar will open under government guidelines on 15 July and then be open Thursday to Sunday from 12pm till late, until at least the end of August.

Service will initially be table-service only, with card-only transactions and no pre-booking will be required.

‘Grouped’ seating for up to six people from one household or bubble, or up to four people from two different households or bubbles will be available.

Children will be welcome in Courtyard Bar with their family group until 7pm. Tables will be protected from Scottish summer weather by parasols.

Head of visitor experience at Holyrood Distillery, Debs Newman said: “Holyrood Distillery was conceived with a focus not just on innovation and great flavour, but also the visitor experience in mind, so whilst it’s too soon to consider re-opening our five-star distillery tours, we are really looking forward to welcoming friends and first-timers into our distillery home, for something new; and in a safe and well-managed outdoor environment.

"This summer is about working together with other food and drink producers in the city, allowing everyone to come together and support a local industry we should be proud of: whether that’s a pint of Innis and Gunn, a slice of some of the best pizza in town or one of the distillery’s top notch gins or liqueurs.”

The Distillery Shop will also reopen from 15 July where visitors can choose bottles from the full range of Holyrood’s gins, whiskies and liqueurs, as well as a selection of Innis and Gunn lagers and IPAs, and a range of merchandise.

A pre-order, click and collect service will soon be available online.

Holyrood Distillery started distilling in September 2019 with a focus flavour and innovation.

Located right in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic distilling district – on St. Leonard’s Lane with views over Holyrood Park - the 180-year-old building has been renovated to produce gin, liqueurs and whisky.

While cask ownership programmes are to be announced for 2020, the whisky itself will be available after a period of maturation in the coming years.
