5 of the best places to get a burger in Edinburgh (expert's view)

It's National Burger Day and to celebrate we've asked Edinburgh's food bloggers and writers to give us their top places to get a burger in the capital.

It's been a mainstay of western cuisine for decades and over the years the humble burger has a remained a constant favourite in cities and towns around the UK.

Delivered in many forms from fast food to gourmet, our enthusiasm for this delightful dish has rarely dampened and with the recent influx of global brands, UK chains and small local independents offering every type imaginable it now seems more popular than ever.

And as it's National Burger Day we thought we'd celebrate by aksing some of the top food bloggers and Scotsman critics in the capital to pick their favourites.

The Rosehip

Zarah and Jonathon said: "We love The Rosehip. Massive burgers - obviously homemade - and just great quality.

"They come piled high with different toppings and are great value for any hungry folk looking for a quick burger fix."

Gaby said: "Bread Meats Bread is good, though, unless you're young and have a speedy metabolism, I'd only schedule in a visit annually, since the burgers are so huge and lardy.

"With side dishes like Quebecois speciality poutine and bacon topped fries, leave two pounds heavier, but very happy."

Ali said: "Lebowskis offer some of the tallest burgers in the city and you can choose from the classics like the Lebowski burger and the Pulled Porker, through to seasonal specials like the Fish burger -­ Haddock in a beer batter with a melted caper butter, tartar sauce and a homemade pea fritter, or the Jamaican Me Crazy – marinated jerk chicken and mango salsa.

"The Big Lebowski Burger was my stand-out,­ double minced steak patty oozing with 2 thick wedges of cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato and burger sauce.

Zarah and Jonathon said: "If you go here you can expect the best buffalo burgers in town sourced directly from the Buffalo Farm in Fife.

"Plus our namesake, the Edinburger, which is topped with a haggis fritter and peppercorn sauce, is available and definitely one to be tried."
