The 640 bottle ‘Surrey Collection’, which was built up over a 20 year period, could fetch tens of thousands of pounds at a series of auctions at McTear’s, starting on 10th August.

The huge collection contains a number of sought after bottles with experts putting a £1,500 to £2,000 price tag on an impressive 1965 Cadenhead’s Springbank and £1,000 to £1,200 on a rarely seen Sheriff’s Bowmore.

A 1972 Connoisseur’s Choice Brora could also fetch up to £800.

Commenting on the auction, McTear’s whisky specialist, Laurie Black, said: “This is a quite remarkable collection that includes some outstanding bottles.

“The seller, who wishes to remain anonymous, clearly has wide whisky interests with the consignment including expressions from Macallan, Ardbeg, Port Ellen, Laphroaig, Highland Park and Glenmorangie, as well as a substantial collection of Springbank.

“It is very rare to see a private collection of this size go to auction and we expect a lot of interest in the various lots.”

The first set of bottles from the ‘Surrey Collection’ will feature in McTear’s Rare and Collectable whisky auction on Wednesday 10th August.
